A Tribute to my Darkroom

This is the room where all is safe... safety film, safelight, safety valves. But at the flick of a light switch, all could become unsafe instantaneously. Paper could be ruined, film could be destroyed. Forever.

But magic does happens in my darkroom as beautiful pictures are made right before my eyes. It’s still magic to me, even after having watched it happen time after time for over thirty-five years now.

Some of us may say that the darkroom is dead. A thing of the past. Better results could be obtained by sitting in front of a computer.

I defy them to show me how the magic of silver can be recreated on a desktop, how the isolated containment of a hidden, darkened room can be emulated under fluorescent lights.

My darkroom lives on, and will continue to until the day I die.

It is the place where I make my art, the refuge of my heart and soul, my sanctuary, my temple, a beautiful space locked in time and cherished forever.
